After my two week holiday, I can really see the difference in the garden. The bananas and cannas have just loved this warm humid weather we have been having and are growing like mad and many of the late summer herbaceous are now coming into flower. The vegetable garden is bursting with produce ready to be harvested daily. Now let me tell you a story. Mrs Duck hatched 7 little ducklings somewhere in the garden. For their first outing she thought she would take them to Reclining Lady Pool on the west side of the garden. However she forgot about the steps up to the pool and her little ones just couldn’t make it up them. She had a hasty change of plan and took them along to the vegetable garden. While exploring, the ducklings came across a deep dark hole in the ground and managed to fall through the tiny gap not covered by the stone. Mrs Duck was beside herself with worry. Even the office staff could not help her. Thankfully, one of the visitors to the garden highlighted the plight of the ducklings to myself and Rick, who works with me in the garden, and we sprung into action. Rick could reach them with the fishing net but they wouldn’t go in, leaving us with no choice. Rick ventured down the hole and lifted all the ducklings to safety. They were last seen trundling their way across the Polo Field to the river.
